This Baroque masterpiece houses the world’s largest cathedral organ with nearly 18,000 pipes. As you cross into Austria, you reach Linz, where the cobblestoned Hauptplatz (one of the largest enclosed squares in Europe) serves as the gateway to the Old Cathedral (Alter Dom).
The beauty of the Wachau Valley
Cruising further, the river carves through the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, arguably the Danube’s most beautiful stretch. Here lies Spitz, a picturesque wine village where terraced vineyards meet the water. The town's historic charm is anchored by the Church of St. Maurice and the nearby ruins of Hinterhaus Castle, which keep watch over the valley.
Imperial Grandeur: Vienna & Bratislava
In Vienna, the "City of Dreams," the river glides past a skyline dominated by the multi-colored tiled roof of St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom). Exploring the Innere Stadt reveals a world of imperial palaces and hidden squares where the coffee house culture remains unchanged. Your next stop, Bratislava, Slovakia, offers a more intimate Old Town. Beneath the gaze of Bratislava Castle, you can wander past the Gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral—the historic coronation site for Hungarian monarchs—and the whimsical, Art Nouveau Blue Church.
The Grand Finale: Budapest
The journey concludes in Budapest, Hungary where the Danube splits the hilly, medieval Buda from the vibrant, bustling Pest. The arrival is cinematic: you'll sail past the neo-Gothic Parliament Building and under the illuminated Chain Bridge. On the Buda side, the Castle District invites you to explore Matthias Church with its intricate stone carvings and the Fisherman’s Bastion, providing the most iconic panoramic views of the "Blue Danube" as it winds through the city.
